About

Samantha Pierotti's Biography

I am a journalist and recent graduate from the University of Oregon, with experience writing in newsrooms and classroom settings. I grew up in beautiful Southern California, and have been involved in journalistic circles since I joined the yearbook at 13. In college college, I wrote for four different campus publications and discovered my passion for folklore as well as journalism. I believe that writing is a constant work in progress, and have been lucky to work alongside other wonderful, driven people at the University of Oregon. Moving to Eugene has taught me the beauty of the outdoors, so when I'm not in the newsroom I like to run local trails, swim in the river, and read on my back porch. Some of my favorite authors are Toni Morrison, Joan Didion, and Donna Tartt.
Trident Magazine
2016-2020
While I was in high school, I worked my way up the publication ladder to ultimately become the Editor in Chief of our school's magazine. I learned a lot about leadership, budgeting, and working in InDesign and Photoshop while I was at Trident. I also got my first taste of working in a newsroom.
The Daily Emerald
2021-2022
I started working at the Daily Emerald spring of my freshman year at the University of Oregon. It was wonderful to have a writing outlet during COVID-19, and although we mainly met over Zoom, I loved being a part of this community of student journalists. While at the Emerald, I wrote for the mental health beat and movie reviews for the Arts and Culture Desk.
Clark Honors College Post
2023-2024
Working at the CHC Post has helped me hone my profile and news writing skills. I cover incoming faculty and happenings at the Clark Honors College. Being surrounded by other journalists and working in a serious newsroom setting has brought my writing up to another level.
Flux Magazine
2024
Working at Flux Magazine as a senior editor was a true learning experience. I edited articles for factual and grammar mistakes, kept my peers on deadlines, and published my own work through Flux. Being a part of the Flux team helped me learn how to work with other journalists towards a common goal, and made me into the writer I am today.
